We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Old Vine Zinfandel received a 91 point rating & Two Puffs from Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine:

Ample ripeness, as this well-made Zinfandel so capably demonstrates, need not come at the cost of balance and polish, and, when met with as much deep and energetic fruit as is on display here, is no liability. The wine is quite full in body but is not sprawling or oversized, and its linear, very long-lasting flavors are marked by a striking sense of varietal purity and early gleanings of further layering to come with age. We see it deepening and becoming even more interesting with time, and, while not at all difficult to taste now, it is sure to reward a good half-decade of keeping.

From some of the oldest plantings on the producer's mountain site, planted pre-Prohibition, this wine is thick, dense and plummy in dried fruit, tobacco and oak. Generous tannin structure makes it strong in style, dominant in blackberry, cherry and dark chocolate as it finishes.

Spring 2020 New Release Wines     Spring 2020 update from Howell Mountain Vineyards   It's springtime at Howell Mountain Vineyards and the vines look great! The weather was near perfect this spring as it was the first time in over 40 years that we didn't have to turn on the frost protection fans once at our estate, the Beatty Ranch. If spring is any indication of the vintage, we are heading for 2020 to be one of the greatest vintages ever!   With Spring here, it's time to release our new Zinfandel Wines. This release contains our new vintage of our Old Vine Zinfandel, our most popular Zinfandel, and the second release of our Primitivo Clone Zinfandel. Both wines have been well received by the press with both wines achieving 90+ point ratings.    With many of us under "shelter in place" orders, we've had a number of people requesting more in-home wine experiences. So, by popular demand, Howell Mountain Vineyards is conducting its first ever Virtual Wine Tasting with lead by winemaker, Bryan Kane and winegrowers Mike & Patrick Beatty.
