91 point rating awarded to our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Petit Verdot

Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Petit Verdot

We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Petit Verdot received a 91 point rating from Wine Enthusiast:

“This is a thick, brooding red wine from the producer's own estate vineyard—a study in dusty rock, graphite and dark cherry. Tobacco, leather and caramel chime in midway through on the palate, surrounded by structured tannin and well-integrated oak that complement the wine's broad shoulders and rich ripeness.”

“In 2016, Howell Mountain experienced an even and balanced growing season. The near perfect growing conditions created some of the best fruit we have ever seen in this region. Full clusters with medium sized berries produced grapes with focused fruit and integrated tannins commonly present in Howell Mountain fruit. With the steady heat in the late summer, the fruit was able to easily reach maturity and was harvested in late-October.”

“Soft, supple and richly etched in red fruit, this wine is also earthy in cedar, tobacco and dusty rock. Tight, firm tannins give it pronounced structure and elegance around peppery spice and lasting oak, the wine aromatic in mountain violet and sage.”

One-Puff awarded to our Howell Mountain 2016 Beatty Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon

We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain 2016 Beatty Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon received a coveted One Puff from Connoisseurs' Guide to California

“Very much a wine of mixed messages at present insofar as it is as tough as it is rich, this mountain-grown youngster hews to the sturdy structural lines that its provenance predicts. It is not bludgeoned by runaway tannins, and it does have ample, well-defined, ripe Cabernet fruit in reserve, but it will require some waiting before its rigidity eases enough to let fruit assume an unchallenged starring role. Five or six years would seem about right. “

One-Puff awarded to our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon

We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon received a coveted 1-Puff rating from Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine

“It is hard to miss the family resemblance evident in the Howell Mountain Vineyards pair, but this one does not have quite the fruity depth and stamina of its mate and is thereby a little more exposed to drying tannin. That it will age into better is certain, and three or four years of cellaring will be of real benefit.”

Two-Puffs & 91 point rating awarded to our 2016 Beatty Ranch Zinfandel

Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Beatty Ranch Zinfandel

We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Beatty Ranch Zinfandel received a coveted 2-Puff and 91 point rating from Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine:

“Lively, well-ripened, blackberry fruit gets a nice assist here from a carefully measured complement of creamy oak, and, while the wine shows a good sense of substance and depth from front to back, it is not beholden to overblown ripeness and stays in fine fruity focus throughout. Its supple beginnings are followed by a bit of sinewy stiffness owing to its combination of evident tannin and slightly elevated acidity, but it has the pieces to age handsomely and a few years on the cork will see it through to a more polished maturity”

One-Puff & 90 point rating awarded to our 2015 Beatty Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon

Howell Mountain Vineyards 2015 Beatty Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon

We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2015 Beatty Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon received a coveted 1-Puff rating from Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine:

“True to the sturdier, slightly tougher norms of Howell Mountain Cabernets, the winery's solidly constructed Beatty Ranch bottling teases with touches of minerally complexity but is, in the main, fairly closed-in and brooding once past its moderately intense, ripe currant aromas. It is presently beat up by more than a bit of back-palate tannin, but, even if dissuasively astringent at the moment, it conveys an always-convincing sense of fruity substance and depth that raises real optimism for age. Hasty drinking is best avoided, and, although a minimum of five or six years of patience is recommended, another half-dozen could pass before it rounds into its best.”
