Tasting Notes

In the glass, the wine exhibits a medium-dark color with a slight purple hue with bouquets of red fruit in the nose with subtle notes of anise and black cherry cola
commonly found in Howell Mountain fruit. On the palate, black currant and raspberry notes dominate the fruit while supported by subtle tannins and spice that provides an elegant, balanced mouthfeel. In the finish, there are hints of hazelnut and dark fruit which linger for 30+ seconds. This wine can be drunk now or cellared for the next decade.

Vintage Notes

A relatively cool growing season with almost no heat spikes to speak of, followed by a challenging wet harvest resulted with lower yields, but quality among the wines that resulted. We were excited about what we tasted from the vineyards as it exhibited much more elegant fruit with balanced acidity which would lead to much more structured wines like that of the Bordeaux region. We harvested the grapes just before three days of rain, allowing the fruit to hang on the vine as the firm skin tannins of the younger grapes began to lighten and resolve on the vine. We utilized mostly old vine Clone 6 Cabernet Sauvignon from Beatty Ranch, providing classic, old-world complexity and structure.
