Tasting Notes

Dense and classically structured, our 2011 Petit Verdot leads with hauntingly dark and complex aromas of blackberry compote, violets, lavender, and sweet tobacco. On the palate the wine is beautifully textured and full, exuding avors of boysenberry, spicy dark chocolate, and subtle graphite. The wine finishes lifted and long with superbly balanced acidity and polished tannins. Although it is approachable now with a bit of air or a brief decant, this is a wine that is built to age, and will certainly reward those with the patience to wait.

Vintage Notes

A relatively cool growing season with almost no heat spikes to speak of, followed by a challenging wet harvest resulted with lower yields, but high quality wines that resulted. We were excited about what we tasted from the vineyards as it exhibited much more elegant fruit with balanced acidity which would lead to more structured wines like that of the Bordeaux region. We harvested the grapes just before three days of rain, allowing the fruit to hang on the vine as the rm skin tannins of the younger grapes began to lighten and resolve on the vine.
